For those of you who are wondering how does the telephone operate, here’s the explanation in layman’s terms.

Working of Telephone

The two basic parts of a telephone are the handset and base; the handset that you speak into or listen from transmits and receives the sound. This mouth-piece is integrated with a thin metallic coating which is divided from an electrode via a thin barrier that bonds to a wire with electric current. When a person speaks, the acoustic vibrations from the voice move the metallic coating towards the electrode which results in variations in voltage. This converts the vibrations to electric energy which is then transmitted through a wire to the person at the other end where it is again converted back to acoustic energy. Thus, there is an effective communication.

The Essential Elements

Well insulated electric wires are very much necessary for a reliable communication as it prevents the sound energy from escaping out before reaching the destination. Insulated wires help in transmission of voice locally even for long distances. Acoustics work together with electricity in order to achieve this.

That was a brief and simple explanation as to how the telephone operates.

If you are receiving nuisance calls from an unknown number, you may feel like tracking down the source but are you wondering- ‘how do I find out who owns a telephone number’. Well, it is quite simple, read on to know how to do this.

Tracking Down the Source

The first method is very simple but may feel like a long shot; however just give it a try. Just enter the number in Google and if you are in luck you may get the source especially if the caller has entered his number somewhere on the web.

If you are not lucky with this, then try using a free reverse telephone number directory from the net. Enter the complete phone number with the area code and click on search. If the number is of a landline phone, then you can get the complete address details of the owner.

Paid Sites for Reverse Phone Look-up

In case, you are looking for the details of a mobile number or an unlisted number, then there is no point in searching through the free reverse phone directory. I such a situation, you will have to go in for a paid site. Reverse Phone Lookup comparison site can help you in choosing this.

There are several parts- big or small involved in the manufacture of telephones. Among them, some of the parts are basic necessities for the production. This post discusses about the role of the basic parts of the telephone in its functioning.

Basic Components

The basic components of the telephone are:
•	A source of electric current ex: battery
•	Conducting wires made of copper
•	Transmitter
•	Receiver
The role played by these basic parts of the telephone in accomplishing the conversation is explained in detail in the following section.

Functions of the Components

The transmitter is integrated with a mouthpiece; it is into this that the person has to speak while on a call. The transmitter also has a thin metallic coating within and behind this is a container with carbon granules. When there is speech in the transmitter, the metallic coating starts vibrating which forces the carbon granules to come in contact with each other; this causes a variation in electrical resistance causing an electric current to flow into the conducting wires. On the other end, the same process takes place in reverse order and finally the speech waves are transmitted to the receiver where the person hears the conversation.

The telephone is a fantastic invention by mankind. Ever since it was introduced commercially, it has made a huge difference in everyday life. The most important benefit of telephones is that it can be used in emergency situations. Let us see in brief about the invention of the telephone.

History of Telephone Invention

The history of telephone’s invention is pretty interesting. Though it was Alexander Graham Bell who created the telephone model, the invention was actually based on many other innovations by renowned scientists. A German scientist by name Johann Philipp Reis invented the possibility of transmitting sound via electricity and also developed equipment called Reis Telephone to transmit sound. However, it had several drawbacks. Another scientist from Italy named Antonio Meucci also developed a telephone model; even to this day many credit this scientist for the invention of the telephone.

Alexander Graham Bell – The Mastermind Behind the Discovery?

Alexander Graham Bell was a professor who was keen on inventing a modified telegraph system; but during the research and development, he was somehow diverted towards developing a device for transmitting speech through electricity. He continued experimenting tirelessly along with his assistant Thomas A. Watson. Finally, in March, 1876 Graham Bell spoke the first few words over the telephone invented by him. However, only Bell can’t be regarded as the sole inventor of telephone, though he succeeded in getting the discovery patented to his name.
